What Future Lies Ahead for AdToll?

AdToll is one of the latest ad network to be introduced into the internet. Thats 1 more ways for you to monetize your site. Publishers earn money through fixed priced sponsored advertisements and Cost Per Click (CPC) Run of Network (RON) advertisements. AdToll offers an attractive 75% revenue share, 25% higher than other networks. It sounds like a really good ad network to run on your site and was doing really great after being reviewed by John Chow. However on Saturday everything came crashing down on them as their server dies on them. (no they did not hide in the shadows with our money)
What Went Wrong?
They lack preparation - we should always be prepared for a worst case scenario. John Chow replied to me “This is why TTZ Media is powered by 8 servers. :)” after he was told about this incident. Well we don’t expect them to have 8 servers as they are still new but they should have at least have 2 servers. Having a back up is important as you’ll never know when something like this would happen.
What’s Going to Happen Now?
According to Dan, they should have already contacted the technical stuff to resolve the problem today. However it seems like AdToll situation is worse than what they had expected as they have yet to fix everything up since the site is still down. This will definitely cause a lot of frustration from both its publisher and advertiser. Both publisher and advertiser will lose money for the downtime. However Dan mentioned that advertisers will be compensated due to this downtime. Too bad for us publishers.
AdToll will have to work extra hard to gain back customers trust after this incident. The downtime will definitely cause them to lose a lot of customer as people can’t trust them anymore. I would expect to see a lot of promotion happening after they have fix things up just to gain back the losses made from this ordeal. We will just have to wait and see then decide whether we should give AdToll a second chance.

Update: AdToll is back online and I’ve decided to give their ad a second chance. We’ll see how it goes.

Hey coolingstar thanks for coming by my site. And its great that I’ve inspired you to continue writing. I also see that you’re from Singapore!
Hi, I saw your comment that you want to keep on writing without fear, thats good, I need to learn from your passion, keep it up.
Thanks for clarifying thinks Dan.
Anyway I have nothing against AdToll as it is a great network. However I won’t be putting the ad up yet since I find that the ads are still loading pretty slow. Will wait till AdToll is more stable.

Adtoll did go down but as a webmaster i think we all need to understand there is no 100% uptime nothing is never perfect and this weekend we all saw something that is not perfect but we learn from our mistakes & move on im a proud member of adtoll.com & i support them My opinon on Adtoll is one of the best advertisement services I have seen! Payments are on time, really easy navagation and the best support. All e-mails are responded to within 24 hours. I give AdToll 5 stars and 2 thumbs up, A+++. Keep it up AdToll and you will be up there with Google AdBrite!

Nice blog entry. I thought I might comment.
To begin with the servers didn’t die, they were switched off!
You can read the official statement on what happened at http://blog.adtoll.com/2007/11.....atement-2/
Just for the record we actually do have a couple of servers, we do have capacity, that wasn’t the issue at all.
As far as compensation goes if you read the statement (link above) you will see we have also compensated Publishers for the 2 full days they were not able to earn from network ads. If you had Sponsored Ads booked at those times you still made money from them.
To say we lacked preparation is probably right, I won’t argue with that. Although we are now making the necessary changes to mitigate any risk of such a downtime again.
Thanks for giving us that second chance and I will say you can trust us, we are not going to run away with your money. We consider ourselves to be very reputable and trustworthy and we don’t want that to change.
